Training of ADEM and Teacher College (TC) Staff on the Management of Examinations
ADEM is asking for consultancy to reform the examinations at the end of the Certificate Course for Head Teachers in Tanzania, which has been designed during the past three years. The course ends with an examination that is at present mainly theory based. The examination questions are set by the TCs and moderated by ADEM. Marking of the examinations is done at ADEM by several college tutors under the supervision of ADEM.
The Dutch National Institute for Educational Measurement (Cito) will organise a two weeks course to improve the examinations.
The training has three topics:
- To empower the participants to improve the examinations.
- The use of large databases (item banks). More generally: how to administer the examinations in an effective and
- efficient way with large numbers of participants.
To discuss alternative ways of doing quality control on the examinations designed by the TCs.
During the course (topic 1) 14 trainers from ADEM and 14 TC tutors from seven regional TC's will be trained in test construction in order to improve the examinations of the course for head teachers in Tanzania. The course will consist of theoretical and practical components.
During the theoretical component of the course, attention will be given to:
- The general framework of test construction, with special emphasis on the purpose and specification of tests.
- Examination model and test grid as a blue print for test construction.
- Test formats (e.g. open-ended questions, multiple choice questions, practical assignments and portfolios).
- Test plan: given the objectives, what test formats can be used to assess the participants. During the practical component,
- the participants will be given assignments to apply the theory.
