Training Programme for Curriculum Development and Assessment for the Project ‘Towards Outcomes Based Education and Training’, CENESA II Programme
The aim of the training programme was to improve capacity building for the Department of Education of the three provinces in South Africa in the field of curriculum development, assessment and school development, resulting in a visible contribution to quality improvement of education. The programme was a combined activity of Cito and SLO.
A follow-up of the workshops in the provinces was organised in the Netherlands. More specialist knowledge and skills were acquired during study visits to the Netherlands.
Provincial personnel were equipped with further knowledge, insights and skills in the areas of focus on the provincial training programmes:
- curriculum material development;
- learning and teaching methodologies / strategies;
- school development plans;
- development of assessment tools;
- school assessment plan.
Cito focused on training in the following aspects:
- assessment tools;
- samples of record keeping and reporting;
- item bank construction and testing;
- development of a ‘monitoring & evaluation system’;
- assessment standards and data analysis.
