Dr. Gunter Maris appointed Professor of Psychometrics, A.D. de Groot Chair
Cito staff member Gunter Maris has been appointed special Professor of Psychometrics to the A.D. de Groot Chair at University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The Chair was instituted to deal with the construction, analysis, and application of tests, examinations, and other assessment instruments.
Professor Gunter Maris
Gunter Maris carries out research into the foundations of measurement in the social sciences in general and assessment in education in particular. His research programme centres on two fundamental issues: how an examination should be scored and how scores for different exams can be made comparable? Resolving these issues involves conjoining knowledge from the domains of psychometrics, mathematical psychology, and the philosophy of science.
Gunter Maris has worked as a senior psychometrician at Cito’s Psychometric Research Centre since 2001. Within the framework of the Socrates Lingua 2 Programme of the European Commission, he is a psychometric consultant for the project entitled Building a European Bank of Anchor Items for Foreign Language Skills. Gunter Maris also works as an advisor to the State Examination Committee for Dutch as a Second Language and he advises the Ministry of Justice on the examinations for Dutch as a Second Language and on the Naturalisation Examination.
