Ministries of Education to open Cito office in Turkey

Cito will open a new office in Ankara, Cito Türkiye, on 13 January 2008. The Dutch state secretary Marja van Bijsterveldt of the Department of Education, Culture and Science, and the Turkish minister of Education, Hüseyin Çelik, will officially open the office. Dutch ambassador Marcel Kurpershoek will also attend the opening ceremony.

Cito Turkey

Cito has been active in Turkey since 2006. The Turkish and the Dutch teaching programme show relevant similarities, whereby Cito’s Dutch monitoring and evaluation system for studentes could make a significant contribution to realising the Turkish teaching programme. In close consultation with teachers of various schools in Turkey, Cito develops a monitoring and evaluation system geared towards Turkish pupils and schools. This takes place under supervision of an advisory council consisting of Dutch and Turkish academics. During the 2006-2007 school year, tests were administered in the first five forms of the 20 participating schools. Starting with the 2008-2009 school year, the tests will be administered in all forms. Some 30 staff and advisers will participate in the activities of Cito Türkiye.

Monitoring and evaluation system

Cito’s monitoring and evaluation system provides teachers with reliable information about didactic and socio-emotional progress of individual pupils, as well as of the group as a whole. Additionally, the system provides insight in the quality of teaching at the schools.
